“A man has a property in his opinions and the free communication of them” James Madison, 4th President of the United States of America. Those words were clearly formed long before the advent of the internet, but have never been more relevant. In this age of blogs, personal websites and instant communication, we want to celebrate and bring together the creativity and thinking that exists across the Baptist family. On the right there is a list of Baptist bloggers, a mix of ministers and members of Baptist churches; below are the ten most recent offerings from that group. This page is therefore an automatic compiler of our Baptist bloggers, so we must make clear that not all expressed below is necessarily the opinion of The Baptist Times. And it is by no means an exhaustive selection - if a particular blog should be on the list, but isn’t, please drop a note to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Jim Gordon: The Art of Biblical Commentary - Exegesis by Word and Image 17 Jun 2013 19:38 pm Student supervision, a preaching request, and a long interest in the Epistle to the Hebrews have encouraged me to tackle G L Cockerill's new commentary on Hebrews. Published in the New International Commentary on the NT series, it runs to... Read more... |

Chris: A load of balls and some lads mags… 17 Jun 2013 19:24 pm I had an idea for last Sunday and it flopped. I had hoped to encourage a load of dad’s to think about the best dad who gave his one and only son for us… The original idea was: ‘it takes … Continue reading → Read more... |

tony mayes: Surprise endings ... 17 Jun 2013 19:07 pm Do you like surprises? I am in two minds, some surprises are nice - like when the children invite us over or when we can unexpectedly get together. Others are not so good - like cars breaking down or pipes suddenly bursting. This Sunday in church part way through the... Read more... |

davidbunce: The mobile web: 4 things your church needs to know when designing its next website 17 Jun 2013 14:16 pm In the last few years, more and more visitors are using mobile platforms as their primary way of navigating the internet. On some websites I manage, up to 25% of the visitors come through mobile devices (iPad, iPhone, various Android tablets and phones etc). This trend doesn’t seem likely to... Read more... |

Simon Woodman: Sermon preached at Bloomsbury Central Baptist Church, 16 June 2013 17 Jun 2013 09:46 am Galatians 2.11-21 But when Cephas came to Antioch, I stood up to him face to face. He was in the wrong. Before certain persons came from James, Peter was eating with the Gentiles. But when they came, he drew back and separated himself, because he was afraid of the circumcision-people.... Read more... |

Jim Gordon: Praying for what I want, or need - then there's what God wants..... 17 Jun 2013 06:47 am “Prayer is not for getting what we want, but rather for bending our wants toward what God wants.” (Stanley Hauerwas) Wanting is one of the strongest drives in our nature. The Lord's Prayer recognises this. Our wants can be as... Read more... |

Jim Gordon: Another prayer to read patiently, gently and with inward honesty. 16 Jun 2013 18:12 pm Below is Kierkegaard's prayer as he sets out to write The Works of Love. It's a long time since I read Kierkegaard, and I have to confess I've picked up Works of Love more by accident than design, which could... Read more... |

Nigel Coles: A lecture on creativity with John Cleese 16 Jun 2013 17:53 pm I'm not sure how John Cleese will feel about me holding him up, as an example to help missional leaders, develop their creativity, or even by suggesting he knows more about Jesus' ways, than he lets on about, but I find this clip both thought and creativity provoking, so pass... Chris: “I have never stopped anyone ever before in my life…” 14 Jun 2013 18:47 pm I’m humbled. Genuinely don’t quite know what to write. Today I had a complete stranger ask for help.
