Support Services Update - June 2021

Dear Friends

As all Star Trek fans know, the future is the Undiscovered Country.  As we continue to slowly edge towards the removal of restrictions, be it on 21 June or later, the challenge of planning for an uncertain future is confronting us all.  After more than a year where we’ve been required to close or only able to open under some significant constraints, it is not clear what our churches will look like when restrictions are lifted.  We certainly hope that all the people who have been following our services online will want to come to church in person and the end of the pandemic will spark a revival of Christian faith.  But perhaps only a faithful remnant will remain and we will need to work hard to rebuild our church fellowships. Will everyone want to go back to how it was, or will there be huge enthusiasm for trying new things?  At this point we have to do our best to seek God’s will for our churches, plan as best we can and be ready to adapt as the situation unfolds.  We hope you will find the Coronavirus section of our website helpful as you consider what lies ahead.

As Baptists Together we are also planning for the future.  A significant part of this is kicking off a review of our financial model which has been in place for nearly a decade.  Whilst we have managed to navigate our finances through the last year reasonably well, the trend of steady decline in our income has not gone away and we need to review how we are using the resources entrusted to us to ensure they are having the greatest possible impact for God’s Kingdom.  We have just issued a request for proposal for consultancy support for the first phase of work which will kick off in the autumn.  Please do pass the link to any person or organisation you think might be suitable to help us.  We would value your prayers for this process as it is inevitable that some difficult choices lie ahead.
Finally, thank you to the great number of you who joined us for Baptist Assembly online.  Although it is always a challenge to put on something new, we were pleased with how it went and delighted that there were over 5,000 live streams of our Sunday morning worship.  It has now been streamed almost 20,000 times.  All the content from Assembly, including video profiles of the new ministers recognised at Assembly are available on the Baptist Assembly Website.  We are now starting the detailed planning for Assembly 2022 in Bournemouth on 14 and 15 May (save the dates!)

May God bless you as we journey together through these uncertain times.

Yours in Christ

Richard Wilson
