Integral Mission - proclaiming and demonstrating the gospel

Rupert Lazar's presidential theme ‘Anointed to do good’ draws from Acts 10:38:
‘... how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the
power of the devil, because God was with him.’

Within this theme, Rupert explores six key areas:

Integral Mission
This for me is about caring for the whole person.  Jesus went around doing good – in a nutshell he went around announcing the good news that God’s kingdom had arrived.  Jesus made this announcement using both words and deeds; proclamation and demonstration.  This was Jesus’ way as for him there was no artificial separation.  Jesus told the good news and Jesus showed the good news.
It has been said that ‘people do not care about how much you know until they know how much you care’.  Jesus went around showing how much he cared for people by doing all manner of things for them which we commonly call miracles.  They were acts of kindness by Jesus demonstrating God’s love as well as speaking of God’s love.  This for me is evangelism at its very best!
I think this is a challenge to us as a missional people.  We tend to think compartmentally.  I am challenged by the fact that Jesus’ lifestyle was evangelistic.  His aim was always to reconcile people with the God the Father.  Jesus cared for the whole person including the person’s spiritual well being (their salvation).
It seems to me that Jesus did good as he looked at people through eyes of mercy and he carried out a ministry of mercy.  Reflect again on Luke 6:36 which say ‘be merciful as your Father is merciful’.  This is a great place from which to start mission/evangelism.  I like to think of it this way – let’s look at others with ‘soft’ eyes.
Remember this: the desire is always to be a blessing, to desire and give the best that people may know and experience God’s love.
