'Much gained from spiritual gifting workshop'

The second small church hub held at Union Church in Heathfield, organised by the Small Church Connexion, was a gifting workshop based on Ephesians 4:11-12 with the theme of ‘Go and make disciples’. By Hilary Taylor

Around 17 people sit around tables in Union Church listening to teaching from Martin Taylor

There was a song and teaching led by Martin Taylor, then everyone completed a questionnaire which gave an indication of gifting. The gifting with the highest score signified which discussion group to join. There were questions for each of the gifting groups (Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Shepherd and Teacher PLUS Organiser and Helper). The discussion was lively and informative.

After a well-earned coffee break, Martin took us on a whistle stop tour of the gifts (including a short exercise in prophecy) before the groups got back together for exercise two, after which was group feedback.

Much was gained from this Saturday morning workshop – of the 17 people who returned feedback forms, nine said their general knowledge of spiritual gifts had increased either noticeably or significantly. Ten people said their understanding of their own gifts and abilities had increased either noticeably or significantly.

Mentoring was encouraged and it was great to see an older person come alongside a younger person on the day, long may this continue.

Comments from the workshop included:

  • Enjoyed the session – gives a thirst for more! Thank you
  • Thank you for a very interesting and valuable morning
  • I was invited last minute so wasn’t entirely sure what I was attending! I found it enlightening and interesting. Thank you
  • Thank you for an excellent workshop
  • I have appreciated being part of today’s training – really liked the way you got us to discuss the various gifts and how to gain more

The first Hub at Union Church took place in July.

The Small Church Connection is happy to lead this gifting workshop at any church of any size or groups of churches. For more information, email Hilary Taylor
