'His dedication to revealing Jesus is nothing short of inspiring'
Baptist church member Wayne Dixon has received a national award in recognition of his long commitment to children’s ministry

Wayne, a member of Slough Baptist Church has been sharing Jesus with children and young people in schools in Slough, Windsor and Maidenhead for nearly 40 years, most recently through Christian Connections in Schools (a local mission partner of Scripture Union).
His commitment was recognised recently at Hand in Hand, the UK’s biggest children’s and family ministry conference, where he received the Long Service Award.
Wayne has introduced the Christian story to thousands of pupils through interactive presentations called Christmas Unwrapped and Easter Cracked, describing the sessions as the 'the most significant area that I've been involved in'.
A key pillar of Wayne’s ministry is It’s Your Move, a Scripture Union (SU) resource that helps children transition from primary to secondary school. In 2025 alone, Wayne led It’s Your Move sessions for over 3,400 children in more than 50 schools.
SU’s National Director, Dave Newton said, ‘Wayne’s dedication to revealing Jesus to the next generation – especially through his work in schools – is nothing short of inspiring.
'His energy, dedication, imagination, and perseverance set an example for us all. He has faithfully and creatively delivered meaningful Christian input across the schools in his area, doing so with compassion and consistency. His ministry reflects the heart of Romans 15:20: It has always been my ambition to preach the gospel where Christ was not known.
‘Wayne has lived out this ambition with passion and purpose.’
Wayne reflected on his long ministry in June 2025, saying, 'It’s been an interesting, exciting, challenging and very memorable journey. Today I want to take this opportunity to say a HUGE ‘Thank You’ to EVERYONE who has made this happen.
'Family, countless individuals, local churches, Scripture Union, Christian Connections in Schools (CCiS), and every school that has kindly invited me in; made me very welcome and allowed me to contribute to their school.
“Making Jesus Known to children, young people AND staff in the schools of Slough, Windsor & Maidenhead” has always been what it is about.
'It’s been an interesting, exciting, challenging and very memorable journey.'
