Second London Marathon chance for minister
Bushey Baptist Church minister Philip Amos is putting his best foot forward for a second attempt to run the London Marathon - after injury stopped his involvement in 2025

Sixty-one-year-old Philip entered the run last year, to raise money for international development agency Christian Aid, but was injured before being able to cross the start line.
He explained, 'Having watched my son run the London Marathon, I was inspired to enter for the 2025 race, so I could experience one of the best and largest marathons in the world.'
Sadly, a few weeks before the 2025 marathon Philip had a freak accident in his local park and fell heavily on his leg, resulting in a trip to A&E and being told that he couldn’t run in the marathon.
'To say I was gutted that close to the marathon was an understatement,' he said. 'However, Christian Aid kindly deferred my place and I’m now back fitter and stronger, ready to take on the 26.2 miles in 2026. And I’m avoiding visiting any local parks beforehand.'
Philip said he is supporting Christian Aid because of its aim to help create a world where everyone can live a full life, free from poverty.
He added, 'The organisation seeks to provide humanitarian relief and long-term development support for the poorest communities worldwide, while also highlighting suffering, tackling injustice and championing people’s rights.
'Christian Aid has hundreds of projects implemented globally, and this is my way of playing a small part in supporting that.'
Philip has set himself a fundraising target of £2,000. The money raised will help support projects, run by Christian Aid’s partners, in vulnerable communities around the world, tackling poverty and injustice.
