Spring tour for It is Well with My Soul

A musical written by a Baptist evangelist which tells the story behind the beloved gospel hymn heads back out on tour in April

It is Well With My Soul800

It is Well with My Soul is one of the most beloved hymns of all time, with words by Horatio Spafford and music by Philip Bliss.

The musical of the same name was written by Gareth and first launched in 2023. Produced by Handiwork Productions, it toured Edinburgh and Northern England last summer, and there has been demand again in 2025.

‘We’re excited to be bringing It is Well with My Soul back on tour this spring,’ said Gareth.

‘We’ve had encouraging feedback on our most recent tour, including requests from churches to host performances.

‘As such this tour includes a mix of both church-based performances and those in theatre spaces.

‘Our prayer that the whole tour can be a resource for the local church for mission and evangelism as the Gospel is presented in a creative way through this musical.’

The production will tour a mix of churches and theatre spaces, with Adam Stone and Katrina Markham reprising their roles as Philip and Lucy Bliss.

It is Well with My Soul is one of the most beloved hymns of all time, with words by Horatio Spafford and music by Philip Bliss. This original musical tells the story of Philip and his wife, Lucy, how at the end of the American Civil War, they end up moving to the growing metropolis of Chicago to make a new life for themselves.

It is there they meet lawyer Horatio Spafford and his wife Anna, producer and publisher George Root, and preacher and philanthropist D L Moody.

As Philip begins to gain prominence as a soloist and hymn writer, temptation begins to creep in: how will Philip handle the ethical challenges that come with his new life? And how will the Blisses handle the tragic circumstances of the Great Chicago Fire and the loss of the Spafford girls in the sinking of the Ville du Havre?

It is Well with My Soul invites you to explore the Gospel message of hope, like an anchor for the soul.

In the storms of life, is it well with your soul?
