'Praise God for all these unsung heroes!'

Churches highlighted what was going well and areas they need help with at the latest Cricklewood hub – and all recognise they have amazing volunteers who serve Jesus. By Hilary Taylor

It was a joy to welcome 25 people from seven small churches to the Cricklewood small church hub recently, this time hosted by Kingsbury Baptist Church. It was good to welcome Chris Andre-Watson, the new London Baptists Regional Minister for the area.

After a time of tea and cake, we worshipped in song led by the team from Cricklewood Baptist Church. We then waited on God to speak to us in a prophesy session and eight people spoke out what they had received, which encouraged us all.

All the churches were invited to share one thing that is going well and one thing they need help with.

The good news included building connections within the community and being a beacon in the area, a young people’s group which is growing and families arriving, and a core team of evangelists out on the streets regularly. One church has a new minister-in-training, they run a gospel café outside the church and hold an open house to give both physical and spiritual food to the homeless.

Another church has a new part-time pastor and people are coming to breakfast and the Alpha course. One church has a CAP Life Skills course starting soon alongside the community kitchen and foodbank.

The things that churches need help with include prayer for a building project, admin and bookkeeping, evangelism and a treasurer. One church has solved the admin issue by paying someone part-time to do this. Tiredness is a problem generally and one church has a minister juggling a young family while running the church and doing his degree!

To ensure good communication between the churches for physical and spiritual help, the hub is starting up a WhatsApp group between key people in each church. This is working well in other hubs and is a blessing in many ways.

The churches all have amazing volunteers who serve Jesus in the local church in their spare time. Praise God for all these unsung heroes!

Comments from the evening:

  • It was a lovely get together with other churches
  • Tonight was a real blessing
  • It was great! Very worthwhile. Edifying to hear how God is moving
