Baptist minister appointed Honorary Chaplain to The Queen 


Baptist minister the Revd Roland Wort has been appointed as an Honorary Chaplain to Her Majesty The Queen

 
Mr Wort, a chaplain in the Royal Navy for more than 20 years, is based currently at HMS Collingwood, a training establishment in Fareham, Hampshire.
Mr Wort joins three other Navy chaplains in this role, and may be asked to officiate in special services.Baptist minister appointed Hon

During his time ashore and afloat, he has worked in both the Portsmouth and Plymouth areas, deployed in destroyers and frigates to The Gulf, South Atlantic, Mediterranean, Far East and Caribbean, and has been seconded to the US Navy and the Royal Australian Navy.

Mr Wort studied mathematics at Cardiff University then trained for the Baptist ministry at Spurgeons College. 
In addition to his naval service, he was minister of Perry Rise Baptist Church, Forest Hill, for eight years.  He and his wife, Sharon, live in Winchester and have two grown up daughters.

He said, ‘It is a great honour to be nominated for this prestigious appointment.  I look forward to the extra responsibility and pray that I will fulfill the role with the dignity and gravitas it demands.’
