The grant will be awarded annually to enable academic research and will be valued at up to £2000 per annum. It will be open to students focusing on work within the British isles and will have the possibility of further grants in subsequent years as students advance their studies.

The grant is aimed at students working on research Master and Doctoral degrees and will be aimed at students undertaking their work in English in the United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland and within the European Union.

Applications will be able to be made from September 2026. See the BHS website for details.

The President of the Historical Society, the Revd Dr Keith G. Jones, said, 'We are very concerned to promote academic reflection on our history, identity and principles. We know the  difficulties young scholars face in funding their academic work and we believe this grant opportunity will be of serious value to candidates.'

Grant applications will be reviewed and awarded by a panel of experts within the Society.

The Revd Dr Andy Goodliff (Regents Park College, University of Oxford) said, 'Baptist life today is part of an exciting past which is worthy of study for the purposes of telling and learning from our story.

'We hope this grant will encourage and enable those keen to engage in research into British Baptist history and thought, and so contribute to our shared life.'
