GCSE Celebrations at Oasis Academies

GCSE celebrations at Oasis aca

Students, staff and parents across the Oasis family of academies are celebrating after achieving another improved set of GCSE results

The group saw an average increase across its 12 secondary academies of nine per cent of students achieving at least 5 GCSEs A*- C  including English and maths on last year.  The average increase for all state-funded schools last year was 3.1 per cent.

Oasis,  one of the country's largest academy groups, has now improved by 26 per cent in the past three years.

Baptist minister the Revd Steve Chalke, is the founder of Oasis. He said, 'We're incredibly proud of all our students' achievements today as we are of the hard work it has taken them to produce these fantastic results.

'Today's improvement in results, which builds on similar improvements in recent years, is testament to how excellent staff and a community-driven ethos can transform academic performance.'

As well as the collective success, Oasis is also celebrating the achievements of many of its individual academies, including:

- Oasis Academy Brightstowe in Bristol has seen the number of students achieving 5 A*-C in English and maths more than double from 31per cent to 63 per cent.

- Oasis Academy Coulsdon in Croydon has seen an increase of 18 per cent in the same measure, achieving 66 per cent 5 A*-C in English and maths.  This is an increase of 31 per cent since the academy opened four year ago.

- Oasis Academy Shirley Park in Croydon now has 66 per cent of students achieving at least 5 GCSEs A*-C in English and maths.  This is an increase of 40 per cent since the academy opened in 2009.

Oasis was founded in 1985 and began developing academies through its educational trust, Oasis Community Learning, in 2004.  Each academy is part of an 'Oasis Hub' that seeks to support and develop the entire community as well as each of their students in the context of their whole life experience.
Mr Chalke added, 'Receiving your GCSE results can be a life changing moment for a student, but at Oasis we believe every day of the year is equally important.

'Our vision is to foster an ethos that encourages students to be the best they can be, both in terms of academic performance and also in seeking to be positive members of their families, households and communities.'
