Multicultural Preaching Listening Day at Spurgeon's College

The Baptist Union's Justice Enabler Wale Hudson-Roberts explains more

The church in Britain today is becoming increasingly multicultural. This is both a delight and challenge not least for those called to preach. Preaching is a supremely contextual enterprise. The calling of the preacher is to help people hear God’s word at a particular time and place. In other words, good preaching must take into consideration context, the context imbibed by the congregation. Multicultural, for many congregants, is that context.

So how then do preachers preach contextually in this fast moving and rapidly changing context, one awash with new and fresh insights into theologies, traditions and cultures? It is certainly not easy. But so that God is fully heard during the preaching experience, ‘multicultural preaching’ must surely become the norm.

On Friday, 16 Feb from 11am - 2.30pm the what, why, how and when of ‘multicultural preaching’ will be explored at Spurgeon’s College. Both the Revd Kumar Rajagopalan (London Baptist Regional Minister) and Dr Stephen Wright (Academic Director at Spurgeon’s College), the key speakers, will challenge and subsequently resource us in the planning of an online resource to help Baptist preachers preach in a culturally diverse, and sometimes complex world.

We do hope you can attend this free event at Spurgeon’s College. Refreshments will also be included. The deadline to sign up is 9 February. Contact Seidel Abel Boanerges on seidel@spurgeons.ac.uk or 0208 653 0850.
